Liko 9 weeks

Here’s another portrait of my 9 week old Weimaraner puppy, Liko taken the same day as the previous post. I took this outside on a cloudy day, so the Straight Out Of the Camera, the light is pretty flat.

Below is the Photoshop Layer Panel. The following details are from the bottom of the layer panel up. Also, note the details written on the layers in the screen grab.

  • I didn’t quite like the way I had framed this image. Since I know I would be using a texture at 100% opacity, this gave me the opportunity to re-frame the image. I made the background layer into a normal layer by double-clicking it and then I increased the Canvas Size and added a layer below the puppy layer and filled it with black.
  • I then duplicated the puppy layer and ran the Topaz Lab’s* Clarity filter (setting: Nature / Natural Boost II)
  • Then I increased the image contrast with a level’s adjustment layer
  • Next, I added clarity to the eyes with both a levels adjustment layer and Hue/Saturation adjustment layer.
  • The texture is Netherlandish from the French Kiss Collection’s Les Textures II.
    Blend mode: normal, Opacity: 100%
  • I adjusted the texture’s brightness and tones using adjustment layers and a burn/dodge layer clipped to the texture. (see tuts on clipping masks)

This was my final image before I cropped it. You can see how I have re-framed the image with the texture.
