The French Kiss Collections Blog will be moving from WordPress to our Shopify store. In the meantime, apologies for this transitional phase!

Why We Are Moving

Having a WordPress blog and a Shopify store has proven to be too challenging. I love the power of a WordPress blog, but in spite ambitious plans, the reality is that having two different platforms is just too much work for a tiny business. As I’ve had my store on Shopify for nearly 10 years, I don’t want to change the e-commerce part so I’ve decided to move the blog to my Shopify store.

Because I dilly-dallied for so long in making this decision, the blog theme I had for this site (Woo Themes Canvas) broke as it was no longer supported. I’ve quickly installed Divi, but I won’t be spending a lot of time making it pretty, so please forgive the unfinished look of the blog at present.

It will take some time to get things transferred over to Shopify properly, so in the meantime I wanted you to still have access to the posts and tutorials.

More Info For E-Commerce Geeks

So, I know I’ll get questions from those passionate about blogging and e-commerce, so if you are interested, in a nutshell, here’s what’s behind my decision:

I started blogging back in 2009 and at that time, I had a couple of products for sale using e-junkie. Man, was that clunky and my site was hacked–twice. (WordPress issues not e-junkie). Woo Commerce was in its infancy and I felt very leery of WordPress for e-commerce so I looked around and read tons of articles and decided to open up a Shopify store. What a great decision. Shopify is very easy to use. I don’t have to worry about updates and security. With that said, Shopify’s blog wasn’t very good and at that time it was advised for SEO to have both a Shopify store and a WordPress blog. Today however, Shopify’s blog is better and it’s now recommended for SEO to have your blog on your Shopify store.

There have been many times that I’ve been tempted by WordPress and Woo Commerce using Divi as the theme. I love the flexibility and power of WordPress. The reality though is that WordPress is a lot more hands-on than Shopify and I just don’t have time for it. Plus, moving my Shopify store would be harder than just migrating products. There would be years of support documents to re-write and a new platform to learn. It’s possible in the future some day I’ll decide the opposite, but for now, sticking with Shopify makes the most sense for me.

Excited For The Future

I’m really excited that I’m going to merging everything. I’m also working on big upgrades and design changes to my Shopify store I’ll see you over there!
