Creative Edge

I want to let you in on a valuable resource I use. Creative Edge Online Training. I’ve subscribed to other training course programs including Kelby Training and Lynda.com and I’ve enjoyed those as well, but right now, I’m really happy with Creative Edge. I love it because, while videos are great, I’m more of a book person when it come to learning. I like being able to skim text quickly to find what I want and slow down when I need to. Creative Edge allows me to highlight passages, create bookmarks, and even download chapters. Besides, Creative Edge also has videos, which is a nice complement to learning. I have a huge library of digital subjects always at my fingertips. I’m sure you know how expensive a lot of these books are! Software and Design books usually go for $30–$50 each.

A few examples of how I’ve used Creative Edge recently.

I read, Matt Kloskoski’s book, Layers: The Complete Guide to Photoshop’s Most Powerful Feature (2nd Edition)
I highly recommend this book for anyone using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. Understanding layers is essential to unleashing your creativity with texture work. I thought I knew layers pretty well, but I picked up valuable tips. It’s a very easy read.

I just got a Canon EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera. (Woohoo!) I’m reading Nicole S. Young’s Canon 7D: From Snapshots to Great Shots to get up to speed on the camera’s functions.

I’m currently working my way through Scott Kelby’s Professional Portrait Retouching Techniques for Photographers Using Photoshop. It’s taking my portrait retouching to the next level. Most portraits benefit from some retouching. OK, maybe not if you are documenting the famine in Africa, but for ordinary portraits it is appropriate. The camera reveals flaws we don’t notice in real life.

I had some problems recently with WordPress and security. I was able to quickly browse through several books on WordPress to find the information I needed.

Subscription

This is a subscription service, so you’ll have to decide if it makes sense for you and your learning needs. I find the small monthly fee to be money well-spent.

By the way, I’m in no way affiliated with Creative Edge. I just really appreciate it.

The product links are to Amazon.com, which does give me a wee commission if you happen to make a purchase.
