Often, all you need is a little kiss of texture. In this case, less is more.
This is an Edge of Gold Dahlia from my garden photographed with vintage satin curtains as a backdrop.
Original Image
Although the image is already rich, the slight texture gives it more depth. I’ve also used the Topaz Labs Detail filter* to slightly enhance the petals.

The Layer Panel
As you can see, I’ve masked quite a bit of these textures so that I’m mostly getting a textured edge burn.
*A note about product links. I have “affiliate” agreements with vendors that I use personally such as Solostreams, Topaz Labs Filters, MadMimi, Amazon.com, etc. I may also have sponsors and ads. Really, it’s a pretty sweet set-up for all involved. You get recommendations for products that your colleagues are using, you support this site without it costing you anything extra, and the vendors have their products recommended by users. Woohoo!
