Chinon

Today is the first day of Spring. The growth and energy of Spring has also helped me to give birth to a new name for my textures. I was tentatively using Tableaux Textures, which I really liked as a name, but it didn’t pass the rule of thumb for naming an online presence. Can people remember, pronounce, and spell it? Sure, a lot of people could, but I bet a lot couldn’t. Even I had to mentally remind myself of the spelling each time!

I did some brainstorming the past few days. I live in France and my inspiration comes from the the patinas, wallpapers, old books and fabrics that I find around me. I photograph the stone walls on old castles and scan old books, postcards, papers, and negatives found tucked at the bottom of boxes in flea markets. I also photograph sections of my French husband’s oil paintings. So, I wanted to reference France somehow.

I also wanted a name that was fun and easy to remember. French Kiss came to mind. The kiss refers to giving your photographs a little love to make them shine. (In graphic design when we felt a design needed a bit more attention we’d say it needed some love.)

You know you’re on track when you feel excited and the ideas are bursting at the gates. This new site feels so right! I can’t wait to get started. This week I’ll be working to get the site functional. Lots to do. Logo to design, graphics to make.

One of the first things I’ll do is get the sign up ready for the newsletter. Be sure to sign up for updates to the blog and announcements for Free Stuff and giveaways. Yep, there’s going to be FREE STUFF. I will also have tutorials and feature client work. Oh yeah, there will also be links to the textures.
